I’m always happy when brides tell me they found inspiration in Wedding Wonderland, but when Zita told me about her wedding I was over the moon: it does happen very often to inspire a wedding in Hungary!
Zita is Hungarian and she met Luca in Florence six years ago. When they decided to get married they just wanted to be themselves, planning a cheerful and colorful party, with cats, sunflowers and a bohemian vibe. Photographer Janos Kummer captured their wedding beautifully.
From the bride
I don’t like traditional hungarian weddings. I wanted to live this moment being myself. In Hungary alternative weddings are very uncommon and we had to be brave to avoid tradition.
My dress and shoes had to be confortable and we gave the guests absolute freedom in term of dress code. Our goal was a pleasant, lively and relaxing atmosphere. I like bold colors and cats so I planned a colorful cat themed wedding – we chose a palette of fuchsia, turquoise and yellow. Our wedding was slightly inspired by Kusturica’s Black Cat, White Cat.
On our wedding day we arrived at Szentendre, a charming town on the Danube. Our clothes weren’t traditional. My dress was custom made by a seamstress, a simple, romantic and boho dress. I wore a ribbon with a gerbera daisy in my hair matching my fuchsia shoes. Luca had a grey suit, custom made in Tuscany, with a blue tie and fuchsia socks. My bouquet, with gerbera daisies, sunflowers and wildflowers, was wrapped in lace.
The ceremony took place in the City Hall to the sound of harp. We chose a sunflower as a natural ring pillow.
The venue was decorated with oversized paper flowers, sunflowers in glass bottles, blue lace and seashells as place cards. Our centerpieces were vintage boxes filled with flowers.
On the door we hanged our initials Z and L with cat silhouettes.
We prepared a sweet table called “Dolce Vita”, a drink station with pálinka, a traditional hungarian grappa made by my dad.
After the cocktail hour we went on the Danube to make lanterns float.
The cake was colorful with cats and Italy and Hungary flags. The party started with the bride’s dance, an hungarian tradition where everyone has to dance with the bride in change of gifts or money.
We chose sunflower seeds as favors. The flowers will remind our guests of this special day.
Congratulations Zita and Luca! Thanks to Janos Kummer for these stunning photos.
